Animals For Sale

Bullswool Farm offers an authentic taste of Kiwi farm life, and is one of New Zealand’s most beloved and iconic rural experiences.

Our Animals for Sale and our Stud Animals

We breed a few different types of animals; donkeys, WoolPuppies, rabbits, miniature horses, and gypsy cobs.  All of our animals have a rather unique start in life – being born at a Farm Park they get an enormous amount of contact with people, and leave the farm very well socialised.

With every companion animal breeding programme our philosophy is the same; start with the best quality animals that we can find, with correct conformation, and are as close to their breed standard as possible. And then only breed from them if they prove to have exceptional, people-loving temperaments, and have a bit of the “X-factor” about them… if they make us and everyone else who meets them smile, then they qualify to add to the gene pool.

Breeding Stock

We have been breeding donkeys for nearly 20 years. We initially concentrated on Irish Donkeys, which we’ve found to be unfailingly friendly, biddable and cute. In more recent times we’ve started crossing our Irish Donkey’s with Miniature Donkeys to help make them a bit smaller.

For Sale: Jensen is the only donkey we have available at the moment. We do have a couple of foals due this season, but they are already spoken for.

Donkey for sale Bullswool Farm

Jensen

Rising two year old donkey, entire jack. Approx 10.2hh.

Jensen is very friendly and  enjoys human company. He is well handled and trained, but as a young donkey, his training will need to be continued with a competent, experienced person to remain established.

He’s from working donkey lines, and would be most suitable for someone who has a job for him – would make an excellent cart donkey, as is athletic and freemoving. With maturity and more training he would also excell with giving kids donkey rides, being used in some sort of animal attraction capacity or as a pack donkey.

Jensen is more like a horse in his temperament – if he meets something new he is more likely to speed up move away than to freeze up, which is the usual donkey fear response. Would be completely unsuitable for anyone who doesn’t have horse handling experience.

We will be selective about Jensen’s new home, for both his wellbeing and his future owner’s enjoyment of him. There’s a pot for every lid, and Jensen needs the right pot.  Likewise, donkeys are social animals, so he will need to go to a home with another donkey or a horse.

He is $2800, and will need gelding if he is to be a non-breeding pet. We are happy to sell him as a breeding jack, if such a home is available.

Our Breeding Jack

Gizzy

Gizzy

Gizzy, surprisingly enough, was born in Gisborne.

He is officially a miniature donkey, but at just under 10hh, is a little on the large side.

He is the sire of our most recent foals (all sold, sorry), and produced sweet, trainable, conformationally correct foals.

Gizzy is available to outside jennies. Please contact us for details.

** we don’t take maiden jennies over 8 years old, as it’s very hard to get them in foal at that age.

Our Breeding Jennies

Cora

Cora

Cora was born on Bullswool Farm, and is an Irish donkey. She is a character with a big personality, and loves activity and going on adventures.

Sweetpea

Sweetpea

Sweetpea is a very affectionate, gentle donkey who loves being around people.

Doris

Doris

Doris is Sweetpea’s half sister. She is half Irish donkey and half miniature donkey. Doris is kind and easygoing.

We want all our foals to be well educated, versatile pets that are easy to care for and own. They do not leave us until they; are good to catch, lead, pick up all feet, can walk up ramps, into buildings, are desentized for riding, confidently load onto floats and can be safely handled by children.

We don’t have any donkey foals available at the moment sorry.
Check back with us in the 2027/8 foaling season.
